Snickerdoodle Cookies

Soft, chewy, perfectly sweet Snickerdoodle Cookies are the perfect fall comfort treat.

What is your favorite cookie?

Snickerdoodle Cookies | Inspiration KitchenDear readers, I realized I really want to get to know you better.  So, I want to start including a question in every post to learn more about you.  Please, join me and play along.

It’ll be fun!  🙂

I want to understand things like ~ what you like to eat, how you like to shop, what you find helpful in the kitchen, what dish scares you to make…  You get the idea.

Snickerdoodle Cookies | Inspiration KitchenDon’t worry, my questions aren’t like a pop-quiz that you have to pass later!

It’s just an opportunity for us to learn something about each other.  I say that’s a win-win for both of us.  In a non-stalker like way.   🙂

Snickerdoodle Cookies | Inspiration Kitchen

One thing I’d love to know for example is “How in the heck do you crack eggs?” because as I’ve told you a hundred times before (like with these Fortune Cookie Lips and Chocolate Stout Cupcakes) that I can’t crack a single egg without a training bowl.

It’s so pathetic!  Egg shell everywhere, or the yolk gets away from me.  Go figure.  every.single.time.

So…you can count on that being one of the questions.  See???  Pop quiz over.  I’ve already given you the answer!  But, that’s not this post’s question.

This post’s question is: What is your favorite cookie?

Snickerdoodle Cookies | Inspiration Kitchen

Now, on to these Snickerdoodle Cookies.  I wouldn’t have necessarily picked them as my favorite, but after tasting them?… I’m changing my mind.  As it turns out, I’d forgotten how much I love Snickerdoodles!

They just have a warm, inviting, cinnamon & sugar tasty, soft, chewy deliciousness about them.

Don’t you agree?

Snickerdoodle Cookies | Inspiration Kitchen

So, when I shared these with friends the other day, I was shocked to be scolded a bit (whaaaaat?) as they kindly reminded me that it’s NOT, in fact, fall.  And, that Snickerdoodles were a fall cookie.

Who said that?  I say Snickerdoodle Cookies are any darn time you want them.  🙂

Mmmmmm…, they are just to chewy, sugary and soft to wait for fall to get here!

Enjoy!

Snickerdoodle Cookies

Course: Desserts
Author: Kristi

Ingredients

  • 1/2 cup butter softened
  • 1/2 cup shortening
  • 1 and 1/2 cups white sugar
  • 2 eggs
  • 2 teaspoons vanilla extract
  • 2 and 3/4 cups all-purpose flour
  • 2 teaspoons cream of tartar
  • 1 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 3 tablespoons white sugar
  • 3 and 1/2 teaspoons ground cinnamon

Instructions

  • Preheat oven to 400 degrees F (200 degrees C).
  • Cream together butter, shortening, 1 1/2 cups sugar, the eggs and the vanilla. Blend in the flour, cream of tartar, soda and salt. Shape dough by rounded spoonfuls into balls.
  • Mix the 2 tablespoons sugar and the cinnamon. Roll balls of dough in mixture. Place 2 inches apart on parchment lined baking sheets.
  • Bake 8 to 10 minutes, or until set but not too hard. Remove immediately from baking sheets.*

Notes

*I baked my cookies 8 minutes, removed them from the oven and let them sit on the baking sheet an extra 2 minutes before moving them to a cooling rack.

You can politely tell your friends that Snickerdoodles are an “Anytime Cookie.” And that is that. Moving on.

Your snicker doodles look perfect! So soft inside and slightly crisp on the outside! And I don’t know what you were upset about, I like your vertical shots! More cookies to drool over!!!

Hahahahaha! Thanks Lindsey – yes, I think they are an “anytime cookie” too. So, when I tell them that, I’m going to have my arms on my hips and that “I’m not negotiating!” stubborn look on my face too! Hurumph! Thanks for the compliments on the photos. Trying to get used to Portrait. But I’m getting there. 🙂 #kristineedstolearntoloveit Hahahahaha!

Snickerdoodles are definitely my biggest cookie weakness, with oatmeal raisin coming in close second (yeah I know I’m weird) 😉 These look amazing, Kristi! Loving how big and puffy they look!

You don’t sound weird at all – you sound perfectly normal! Now just add ‘the whole jar of peanut butter cookies’ and a chunky chocolate chip cookie and girl, you are validated as PERFECTLY normal. 🙂 Bravo to the puffy Snickerdoodle!

Oh yum! I love love loooove snickerdoodles, especially if they’re nice and soft in the middle. Favorite cookie would have to be my take on peanut butter cookies, though, using Cookie Butter instead and rolling them in a snickerdoodle-inspired cinnamon sugar!

In fact, I’ll make you six dozen cookies and maybe buy your flight out here, because I am *really* tired of fishing shells out of my cracked eggs!!! 🙂 I’m so glad Snickerdoodles are your favorite!

Those close-up pics show the nice warm spices and make me feel like I can almost smell them. 🙂 I think they’re whenever you darn well want them too…not just for fall. And my favorite cookie? I love them all and it depends on my mood. Right now, I’m in the mood for a big, fat Snickerdoodle!

Isn’t that the greatest compliment – being able to taste or smell something through the screen? YESSSSS!!! I’m so glad that they aren’t a ‘fall’ cookie. I was crushed to hear that. And you’re right, it depends on my mood – if you showed me a White Chocolate Macadamia Nut Cookie right now, I’d fall in love with a new favorite all over again! Hahaha!

Yumm! Snickerdoodles are one of my very favorite cookies! But, I don’t think I could ever pick a single favorite (though I’m pretty partial to shortbreads).

As for the egg cracking, I crack mine on a flat surface!

You know, Rachel, I crack mine on a flat surface too, but something goes wrong in translation by the time they get to the bowl. That’s assuming they get there of course! Hahahaha!
